Angela L. Nelson is the Director of the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance, appointed by Governor Mike Kehoe effective March 1, 2025. With nearly 25 years of experience in the insurance sector, she brings a broad perspective shaped by her work as an agent, regulator, and executive.

Angela previously served within the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance from 2002 to 2020, including leading the Insurance Consumer Affairs Division during the Joplin tornado response and directing the Market Regulation Division. Most recently, she was Vice President of Public Affairs and Government Relations for the Automobile Club of Missouri, overseeing legislative and regulatory matters, and also managed compliance operations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City.

Angela graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Management and earned her MBA from William Woods University. Her commitment to consumer advocacy has been recognized through several awards, including the Graduate College Award and the Paul DeAngelo Memorial Teaching Award from the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society.
