Sean Dalton, CPCU, AMIM, is Executive Vice President and Head of Marine Underwriting, North America at Munich Re.
Sean brings extensive experience in marine underwriting and maritime operations. A professional mariner, he held a U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate Unlimited Tonnage License from 1988 to 2003 and currently holds USCG licenses as Master 100 Ton Inland Waters, Master Uninspected Passenger Vessels under 100 Ton, and Mate 100 Ton Near Coastal Waters. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve from 1988 to 1999 and is a certified Divemaster with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Sean also serves the marine industry through a variety of leadership roles, including Vice President and Executive Committee member of the International Union of Marine Insurers (IUMI), former Chair of the IUMI Cargo Committee, and former member of the IUMI Policy Forum.
Sean is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and earned a Master’s degree from the State University of New York Maritime College. He is Chairman of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU) and serves on its Board of Directors, Chairman of the National Cargo Bureau (NCB), and a member of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). He holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM) designations.
